[IC Information]
Character Name: Rorschach / Walter Kovacs
Series: Watchmen
Gender: Male
Age: 45
Species: Human
Sexuality: Straight, possibly even nothing at all
Appearance:
As Walter, he is described as being 'ugly.' Standing at 5'6, even with his well-built physique he wouldn't seem very imposing. His face is worn quite rough. He lacks expression and has a tendency to stare directly at a person with out blinking. He has short, messy red hair is often unshaven.

As Rorschach he is much more imposing, and has his proper face (in his eyes). He wears a brown leather trench coat and matching hat, a thin white scarf tucked into his jacket and dark leather gloves. But notably, he wears a mask--a full hood. It is made from an advanced material, described as two thin layers of latex containing a viscous liquid between them. This black substance shifts in symmetrical patterns across his face. He is also marginally taller, wearing elevator shoes to give him more height.

Personality:
He was described as "tactically brilliant, and unpredictable" by Nite Owl, who had been his partner. But, beyond that, he is abrasive, abrupt and unrelenting. "Never compromise" is his motto. Despite his views of life being the same as his mask--stark black and white--he is morally gray. Though he has a proper residence, he lives the life of a transient. When breaking into someone's house for information (he doesn't seem to believe in knocking), he has no issue helping himself to their kitchen. When seeking information, he will sooner break fingers than calmly discuss and bargain.

He speaks in monotone, and tends to refrain from using pronouns whenever possible, as well as all those little, unnecessary words. Such as a, the, it, and so on.

He isn't exactly an angry person, or apathetic as most would be. He is doing what he feels is right. And he approaches with a straightforward, no-nonsense type of attitude. However, he is prone to moments of humor. Though, it's not cheeful humor. It's often off color, and still said in the same monotone as everything else.

Abilities:
He does not have any super powers. However, he has everything else needed for a non-super powered vigilante crime fighter needs. He is quite intelligent and clever. He specializes in hand-to-hand combat, and utilizes what he has available for weapons. Going so far as using pepper to blind someone to get away. He can handle himself against multiple armed attackers with out difficulty.

Weaknesses:
His weakness lies in his inability for compassion or mercy and the ability to see the good in anything. He has great difficulty in recognizing a friend, or when to use a softer touch to solve a
problem. Though he has a great investigative mind, he tends to charge head-first into a situation, which can get him into quite a bit of trouble.

Manhattanite or outsider? Manhattanite

History:
He did not have the best life. Far from it. It was his rocky time that led to the creation of Rorschach. He was raised by a mother that turned to prostitution soon after he was born. She abused him and was not exactly discreet with her activities, exposing him to the entire lifestyle. She would go so far as blaming him for everything and telling him she regretted not having him aborted. After he got into a rather brutal fight with two older boys (who had been mocking him for
his mother's lifestyle), he was admitted into psychiatric care. After that he was put into special care and never saw his mother again. He was quiet and withdrawn, but his intelligence came through had he was well on his way to making something of himself.

It was after he got a job in the garment industry that he began his life as a masked crime fighter. After learning of a murder of a young woman while her neighbors watched on, he took the dress that had been intended for her and learned to manipulate it's special material to create his mask. But it wasn't until a kidnapping case that he truly became Rorschach. A young girl, fed to dogs by her kidnappers. It was then that he began his ruthless activities. He no longer showed mercy, and tended to not leave the culprits alive.

He joined up with other masked heros and formed a tentative partnership with the second Nite Owl. But that all fell apart when the Keene Act was passed in 1977, outlawing vigilantes--masked or otherwise. Rorschach was the only one who refused to reveal his identity or retire. His method of informing the city of his decision was to drop the body of a known serial rapist on the police department steps with a note that simply read "Never."

He remained active for many years. In 1985, he started drawing out his ex-partner and the others when The Comedian (one of their group) was murdered. After another of their own, Dr. Manhattan, was forced into exile, he was convinced there was a 'Mask Killer' on the loose. This theory was solidified when he himself was setup and captured. But he didn't remain in prison long. His comrades were able to rescue him. But in the time he'd been in prison, Nite Owl came to a theory that there was actually a company behind everything that had been happening. With World War III looming just days away, they needed to act fast.

It was unfortunate, however, that the root of the problem was another of their own. Ozymandias, the smartest man in the world, had been working for many, many years to execute an elaborate plan to save the world. Even if it meant killing thousands of people. And he was successful in it, too. The war halted when a giant monster suddenly appeared in Manhattan and killed half of its population. The others vowed to not speak of what had occurred. To not tell anyone that Ozymandias had been the cause so they could preserve the peace he had created. Except Rorschach. "Never compromise." He had to keep doing his job of punishing evil. He wold not stay quiet.

He knew what this meant, and he accepted his fate, when Dr. Manhattan didn't allow him to leave the Antarctic base. Though the intended had been death--complete obliteration--Rorschach found himself back in Manhattan. But little did he know, when he was dropped in that dark alley, that it was over twenty years later and it wasn't exactly the city he knew.
